to make your monday a little brighter

So there is this gene that runs prominently in the Bassett Family: the FRUIT gene. It manifests in a variety of forms including excessive amounts of canning/growing/consuming of any and all types of fruit (berries, plums, clementines, etc). I was duly warned of this fact before I married Erik, but I have to say, if I knew it would manifest itself so fully and so EARLY, I may have thought twice....

I should note that she finished the ENTIRE thing and got very upset when we tried to take it away (as we were about to leave for church and she was dripping juice everywhere). If you listen carefully you can hear her sucking!

In other exciting news, Ava attended her first birthday party for a friend in ward. Little Miss "P" is one of the many (I think 5) girls in the ward that is within 2 months of Ava. It is so much fun and as they are all getting older, it is really cute to see them all play together. Her party was adorable too...everyone was supposed to come dressed as a "P" character. The star of the party had the cutest outfit, and she came as a picnic table! Other honorable mentions were a pencil, a pirate, prime numbers and polka dots. Sadly, I have the I'm-not-creative-with-costumes-gene (which I should splice and take from my mother-in-law!) and so we didn't dress up, unless you count the fact that Ava was wearing Pink... :)

And probably the most exciting news of all...my little sister had her baby on Friday (right on the due date...NOT FAIR!) I am amazed at how different she looks than Ava. For one, she is nearly the same length but is a whopping 2 LBS LIGHTER than Ava was. Holy moly. I have only gotten to see pictures so far, but she is gorgeous and I cannot wait to meet little Claire Olivia (cute name, huh?) in person. Congratulations again Chel and Josh!

  1. Bert! I didn't know you were friends with the Niemans. Dave and I have been friends for a long time. In fact, he even came out to visit while I lived in Boston. Love ya girl! Your little one is getting so big:)

  3. I thought there was hope for Ava, seeing as that my studies of the fruit gene have shown that the it demonstrates recessive inheritance and variable penetrance. Unfortunately, you must be a carrier yourself (Erik being of course homozygous recessive) because Ava is definitely showing early manifestations! :)

  4. Britney,
I didn't know that Josh is your brother-in-law. I was a Teaching Assistant for a couple of law school classes this last year, and Josh was in my class last Fall semester. I knew he was LDS and went to BYU but I didn't know who his wife was. What a small world.
