I got featured! (...kind of...)

So a blog I posted about recently featured me! Well, sort of. It's a fashion blog where the lovely Jill gives great advice about different outfits, looks, styles, etc. She does amazing wardrobe consults for a small fee, or you can get on her FREE list where you tell her a little bit about yourself and she will assemble three "looks" for you. I put myself on her list and earlier this week I was featured! I told her I liked things with sleeves and near the knee (along with the info she posted), so I think she did a pretty great job! Check it out:

So fun! I love this site because she SO has my style and she posts pictures of her own outfits. I find that I have a lot of those same pieces in my closet and just learn new ideas on how to pair them together. She is a huge advocate of knowing what you want before you go shopping, so I like that I can see a bunch of outfits that I love and then settle on a piece or two that I might save for to get me those "looks" (like white capris!)

Thanks again Jill!

to make your monday a little brighter

So there is this gene that runs prominently in the Bassett Family: the FRUIT gene. It manifests in a variety of forms including excessive amounts of canning/growing/consuming of any and all types of fruit (berries, plums, clementines, etc). I was duly warned of this fact before I married Erik, but I have to say, if I knew it would manifest itself so fully and so EARLY, I may have thought twice....

I should note that she finished the ENTIRE thing and got very upset when we tried to take it away (as we were about to leave for church and she was dripping juice everywhere). If you listen carefully you can hear her sucking!

In other exciting news, Ava attended her first birthday party for a friend in ward. Little Miss "P" is one of the many (I think 5) girls in the ward that is within 2 months of Ava. It is so much fun and as they are all getting older, it is really cute to see them all play together. Her party was adorable too...everyone was supposed to come dressed as a "P" character. The star of the party had the cutest outfit, and she came as a picnic table! Other honorable mentions were a pencil, a pirate, prime numbers and polka dots. Sadly, I have the I'm-not-creative-with-costumes-gene (which I should splice and take from my mother-in-law!) and so we didn't dress up, unless you count the fact that Ava was wearing Pink... :)

And probably the most exciting news of all...my little sister had her baby on Friday (right on the due date...NOT FAIR!) I am amazed at how different she looks than Ava. For one, she is nearly the same length but is a whopping 2 LBS LIGHTER than Ava was. Holy moly. I have only gotten to see pictures so far, but she is gorgeous and I cannot wait to meet little Claire Olivia (cute name, huh?) in person. Congratulations again Chel and Josh!

A Few of My Favorite Things (part 2)

I find myself wasting a lot of time on blogs. Like way more than I'd like to admit sometimes. Don't we all? Well I'm fed up with it. So I thought and thought about how to limit my time wasting. Restricting my time on the internet? I toyed with that idea but couldn't figure out how to make myself accountable. Give up looking at blogs altogether? Not likely. Then I realized the thing that made me most frustrated about my time wasting is that I spent a lot of time looking at blogs that I made me feel like I needed things, needed to be more crafty, made me sad about what my life is really like. Which is really silly, because I LOVE my life. I love my house, I like my "style", although I love to "craft" I don't pump out things every other day. I'm me and I want to work on the things that are important to me: being a better mother, a better wife, developing my skills and talents. So I have limited my blog lurking to a few choice blogs that make me want to be a better person and a better mother.  These are a few of my favorite things:

Spaghetti

Ava LOVES spaghetti...as you can tell. Too bad she's recently boycotted the dish...I mean cause really, who can resist this cuteness (even if it is so messy!). And yes, this is what she always sounds like when she eats.

Big Lake Half Marathon

This last weekend, my parents came into town and we headed up to New Hampshire for a half marathon. I've done the race once, and Erik did it last year. Somehow we convinced my dad to do it this year too...his first big race! It's a hard course, but it is gorgeous. During at least half of the race you have a direct view of Lake Winnipesaukee. Sadly, it rained a LOT during the race so both guys got really cold afterwards, but I think they both had a good time! Mom and I followed in the car with Ava (who was a great sport to be cooped up in her carseat so much of the weekend) and tried to take pictures along the way. A few highlights:

  • Mom trying to convince me to drive around the police car who had his lights on and was trying to slow traffic so that we could catch up and see my dad
  • Erik coming in at mile 11 and me realizing he was going to break his PR!
  • Seeing a bunch of old singles ward friends
  • Heading to Newburyport after for some yummy chocolate and lunch!
  • Erik finishing in 1:19:05! (6 min miles!)
  • Dad finishing in 1:58! (9 min miles!)

(I know this is a horrible picture...sorry!)

so gross...and then it gets better

There is a smell coming from our pantry and I can't figure out what it is! And yes, it is gross. I was worried that it was a dead mouse but if it is, the little booger is hiding pretty well. What do I do?!

On a much better note...Jess, my cousin, was here last week and we had SOOO much fun together. I almost felt like I was on vacation too, only my baby slept well since she was in her own bed. It was seriously glorious. Rather than completely copy her, I'll just send you over to her post all about it. Beautiful pictures and all.

Check it out HERE.

Also, Ava is getting her 8th tooth on her bottom jaw and she has been having a hard time sleeping. Last night I tried to put her down and she got really upset, really fast which is really unusual for her. Within a few minutes she was doing the hiccup-y breathing and everything. I went back in to calm her down and she was a wreck, poor thing. She NEVER let's me do anything but nurse her in the middle of the night...ever. I have only rocked her to sleep a couple of times in her life, as she is more like a nurse-and-I'll-figure-it-out-on-my-own kind of girl. But last night, with all her crying, she immediately laid down on my shoulder to finish crying and calm down. She let me rock and sing her to sleep and it was a really sweet moment for me! Those are the moments that you cherish. I really love being a mom!

And because posts are no fun without pictures, here are some flashback pics from the first few weeks of Ava's life:

We sure love our sweet baby girl.

9 months

Time is really flying and Ava is growing up so fast! I wish I could bottle this time up and save it forever...she is so much fun. My little travel/shopping buddy. I just love her so much! She is growing well and is really happy...and REALLY crawling now! Hoorah.

Stats:
Height: 29.5 in (96th percentile - down 2%!)
Weight: 20lbs 11oz (80th percentile - UP 20+%.....HOLY COW)
Head: 42.5 cm (98th percentile)

She is a Bassett/Walker through and through...tall and big head! I'm surprised that she's so heavy...she is no longer my petite little girl :) She says goo/ga, baba, dada, guk, mama (although she doesn't use them as words). She laughs easily, loves peek-a-boo, and BOOKS!

(last 4 photos courtesy of Jess...more on that fun adventure later!)
